MARINATED TOFU STEAKS
1.25 kg tofu cut into 7mm slices
For the Marinade
1 clove garlic, crushed
5 ml Japanese seven spice seasoning (shichimi togorashi)
1 large spring onion, trimmed and sliced finely on diagonal
60 ml mirin (Japanese sweet rice seasoning)
150 ml shoyu
15 ml black sesame seeds
450ml water
For the Dipping Sauce
45ml Shoyu
2 cm fresh root ginger, peeled and grated
2.5 cm daikon or mouli, scrubbed and grated
20 ml water
To Cook
A little sunflower or sesame oil
25 g organic white flour |

Stir all the marinade ingredients into a large shallow dish. Arrange the
tofu slices in the dish, cover, and leave at room temperature for 30
minutes. Stir the dipping sauce ingredients together, cover and set
aside.
Cover the bottom of a medium-sized frying pan with oil and heat. Lift
the tofu steaks from the marinade and dip in the flour. Cook the steaks,
in batches, for about 3 minutes each side. Drain and serve with the
dipping sauce.
